Electrical Safety Inspection in Northern Virginia
A professional electrical safety inspection is one of the smartest investments you can make in your home or commercial property. SparkWise Electric’s licensed electricians perform thorough, code-based inspections across Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William, and surrounding Northern Virginia communities — giving you a clear picture of the condition of your electrical system and what (if anything) needs attention.
Our inspections are conducted against the current National Electrical Code (NEC) and local Virginia amendments, and we document findings in a clear written report with photos. Whether you’re buying a home, selling one, insuring an older property, or just want peace of mind, we’ll give you an honest assessment — never pressure-selling upgrades you don’t need.

What’s Included in a SparkWise Electrical Safety Inspection
Every residential inspection covers the full electrical system from the service entrance to the branch circuits. Core checks include:
- Service entrance and main panel — grounding and bonding, panel brand/age (including known-defective brands like Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and Challenger), breaker condition, proper amperage, and signs of overheating.
- Sub-panels and feeders — proper wiring, labeling, breaker sizing, and clearance.
- Branch circuits — GFCI and AFCI protection in required locations (kitchens, bathrooms, garages, bedrooms), outlet polarity, grounding, and load balance.
- Devices and fixtures — outlets, switches, light fixtures, and junction boxes for damage, incorrect wiring, or improper installations.
- Grounding system — ground rods, water bond, and continuity throughout the system.
- Smoke and CO detectors — placement, age, interconnection, and battery backup.
- Visible wiring methods — condition of accessible cable runs, presence of knob-and-tube or aluminum branch wiring in older homes, and any DIY modifications.
When Should You Schedule an Electrical Safety Inspection?
Buying or Selling a Home
Standard home inspections rarely cover the electrical system in depth. A dedicated electrical inspection protects both buyers and sellers from surprises — and documentation from a licensed electrical contractor often carries more weight than a general home inspector’s report during negotiations.
Homes Over 30 Years Old
If your home still has its original panel, aluminum branch wiring, or a pre-2000 load center, an inspection is strongly recommended. Many Northern Virginia homes built in the 1960s–1990s have panels that are now at end-of-life or under active insurance exclusions.
Insurance or Lender Requirement
More insurers are requesting a four-point or electrical-specific inspection before renewal. We provide the documentation your carrier needs, including panel type and age, wiring method, and overall system condition.
Before Major Additions or EV Charger Installation
Before adding a kitchen remodel, an ADU, a heat pump, or an EV charger, a safety inspection tells us whether your existing service has the capacity — or whether a panel upgrade is the better path. It’s also the starting point for any significant rewiring project or EV charger installation.
After a Power Event or Near Miss
If you’ve had a lightning strike, lost utility power in an unusual way, smelled burning near an outlet or panel, or had a breaker that keeps tripping, schedule an inspection right away.
How the Inspection Works
- Schedule — call or book online. Most inspections take 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on home size.
- On-site visit — a licensed SparkWise electrician walks the property with you, photographs findings, and tests key circuits.
- Written report — delivered within one business day with photos, code references, and prioritized recommendations (immediate safety, code-required upgrade, optional improvement).
- Follow-up — if repairs are recommended, we provide a written quote. You’re never obligated to use SparkWise for the work.
