About Our Services & Expertise
Do I need a permit for electrical work at my home?
Most electrical work in Northern Virginia requires a permit and inspection. This includes panel upgrades, new circuits, EV charger installation, and major rewiring. Permits exist to protect your safety and ensure work meets the NEC (National Electrical Code) and local codes. We handle all permitting and inspection coordination for you. Trying to avoid permits puts your home at risk and can cause problems when selling.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. SparkWise Electric is fully licensed, bonded, and insured. We’re registered with Virginia and carry comprehensive liability and workers’ compensation insurance. You can verify our license through the Virginia Department of Professional Regulation.
What types of electrical work do you do?
We specialize in residential electrical service and installation throughout Northern Virginia. Our services include electrical troubleshooting and repair, panel upgrades and replacements, EV charger installation, lighting installation and upgrades, circuit additions, whole-home rewiring, new construction wiring, and more. We also serve commercial clients with commercial panel work and electrical upgrades.
Cost & Pricing
How much does electrical work typically cost?
Costs vary widely depending on the scope of work. A simple outlet repair might be a few hundred dollars, while a 200-amp panel upgrade typically runs $4,000–$6,000 and a like-for-like panel replacement $1,800–$3,000. EV charger installation generally runs $900–$3,000 depending on your electrical infrastructure. Permit and inspection fees are usually $300–$450 and we quote them as a line item. The best way to get an accurate price is to request a free estimate — we assess your specific situation and give you a clear quote before starting work.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates for most residential and commercial electrical projects. We’ll come to your home or business, assess the work, answer your questions, and give you a detailed quote with timeline and scope.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, check, and major credit cards. For larger projects, we can discuss payment schedules. Ask when you call or during your estimate.

EV Chargers & Panel Upgrades
How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home?
A Level 2 home EV charger installation generally runs $900–$3,000, depending on the distance from your electrical panel, your home’s current capacity, and whether panel work is needed first. Some homes need only a dedicated circuit; others need a panel upgrade. We assess your setup during a free estimate and tell you exactly what is required, including the permit and inspection fee.
Do I need a panel upgrade before installing an EV charger?
It depends. Many modern homes have enough panel capacity for a Level 2 charger circuit. Older homes, especially those on 100-amp service, often do need an upgrade. We determine this with a load calculation during a site assessment. A 200-amp panel upgrade typically runs $4,000–$6,000. In some cases load management can avoid an upgrade altogether — we will tell you if that applies to your home.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
A typical panel upgrade is a 1–2 day job depending on complexity and permit inspection timing. We’ll give you a timeline during your estimate. Permit wait times vary by jurisdiction—generally 1–3 weeks.
Safety & Code Compliance
How do I know the work is up to code?
All of our work follows the NEC (National Electrical Code) and local Northern Virginia electrical codes. For permitted work, the local inspector verifies compliance. For non-permitted work, we inspect our own work to the same standard. If you ever have concerns about quality or code compliance, let us know and we’ll address it.
My breaker keeps tripping. What's wrong?
A tripping breaker is a safety signal—it means a circuit is overloaded, there’s a ground fault, or something’s drawing too much power. Don’t ignore it. Common causes include faulty appliances, overloaded circuits, or old wiring. Call us for a diagnostic. We’ll find the problem and fix it safely.
